About Me
In 2012 I fell down my stairs injuring my back, fortunately whilst I escaped with comparitively miner spinal injurys it was a live changing event that led to me having to be medically retired. I developed M.E. and also went on to display symptoms that also led to a diagnosis of F.N.D both of which have no cure, so combined with my spinal issues I am now officially disabled and need to use wheeled legs for anything other that a few minutes walk or standing.
My other half and I were visitng a cafe on the River Nene in Northamptonshire and were looking the moored narrowboats there when we both said that we would love to live on one. And the decission was made in a heartbeat to go for it whilst I was still mobile enough to do so (we actually met on a day trip canal boat in the 1990's) it took over 2 years to achive this dream for various reasons, and on the 11th June 2016 we moved onto our Narrowboat, 18 months later we married with our reception at the Foxton Locks Inn where we first met over 20 years ago and our boat was moored out side.
After I became disabled I have become a keen photographer and have had images from my Steambywhacky collection published in magazines. But my first love is all things canals and narrowboats, which is reflected in this collection.
I also run Disabledboaters.org for boaters of all abilites to share and support each other. More recently I was in the position to have
an adapted narrowboat built. Check out my talk at accessable waterways forum in Birmingham on youtube here
